When Poppy took her rocket to the stars, I made a promise to her and myself that I’d always continue to support and raise money for Alder Hey, and I’ll tell you why.
Alder Hey Children’s Hospital is an NHS-funded hospital and there can sometimes be some confusion as to why to raise money for something that is funded by the NHS. As with most things in life, there is a budget. And it’s a budget that is already tight, and stretched. The NHS do so much for us, and I’ll forever be thankful to them, they pay our doctors, our nurses, and our hospital overheads but as I’ve just previously mentioned, it has a budget.
Alder Hey Children’s Charity is here to help make Alder Hey what it is, a truly special place for little people to be cared for. For parents find comfort in a place that is otherwise, a tough environment.
Our fundraising doesn’t pay for nurses and electricity. It pays for:
Specialist equipment that isn’t yet available through the NHS.
Research, experimental work, and education for advanced learning.
Entertainment on play wards for Children to find joy whilst in hospital.
Private booths in PICU for parents to find some sanctuary during their worse times
The design and construction of a bereavement centre offering counseling and support for parents.
A new children’s mental health facility that will continue to grow and support children.
A brand-new state-of-the-art surgical neo-natal unit for babies and families. Small comforts that as a parent with experience, is vital.
I’ve sat in PICU. I’ve wandered around the building aimlessly. I’ve watched dedicated nurses. doctors & Surgeons. I’ve seen their specialist equipment. I’ve seen their beautifully decorated and fun waiting rooms. I’ve eaten their food and I’ve been counseled by the best. I’ve seen what Alder Hey do and have a deep passion to help fund the amazing work they do and as to honour their work and to honour my beautiful baby girl, we’ll carry on. We’ll fundraise where and when we can.
To everyone who has donated, supported and everything in between over the past 4 and a half years; thank you. It’s you who have put Poppy’s name on the wall of major donors, it’s you guys who have helped recognise that the blue sky is always there, and it’s you guys who are helping to make a difference.
